Solving the Transition Gap Through Mentorship

GETTING HIS WINGS

Justin, a veteran mentor who served in Afghanistan, and his mentee Bryan (right), a 20-year active-duty sergeant in the U.S. Army who is about to retire. Bryan's goal is to become a pilot.

Less than one-half of one percent of Americans have served in the military. After World War II, veterans made up nearly 12% of the nation — a stark contrast that highlights the challenge many face when reentering civilian life. Americans deeply respect those who serve, yet few fully grasp the experiences that shape them. Still, the desire to help remains unwavering.

Mission2Life connects service members and veterans with a powerful mentorship network that opens doors to life’s next chapter. Our program works hand in hand with mentees to build the skills and confidence essential for successful transition.

Through personality and situational assessments, along with experience inventories, we gain a clear understanding of each service member’s strengths and character — while helping mentors better guide their growth. Mentors play a pivotal role in translating military skills into language that resonates in the civilian workforce, turning experience into opportunity.

Benefits for Mentors

  • Make a direct, lasting impact on a service member’s transition and future.

  • Share your experience in finances, career, and networking to open real opportunities.

  • Help strengthen a veteran’s family, social, and communication foundation.

  • Grow your own leadership and coaching skills through meaningful one-on-one mentoring.

Program Impact

I have been a mentee since 2017. My mentors have met with me weekly whether I was stationed in Germany, Iraq, or in the States. Through them I have learned the importance of meeting with experts in fields that were of interest to me. This has helped me learn from experts with hands-on experience and I am now enrolled in college pursuing a degree that I had not considered in the past.

I hope to be able to help others through their transition by giving back to Mission2Life as a veteran mentor. I cannot stress enough how instrumental Mission2Life has been in helping me. My mentors have even helped my teenage son and my nephew. My mentors have been like a family to me. My veteran mentor has been amazing in helping me acquire my pilot’s license, while my civilian mentor has come alongside to assist me from a professional standpoint.
